Here we go again...
Today was the first coached workout of the new IronTeam season. Half the team is made up of return participants coming back as staff. The other half consists of excited, anxious, fit balls of energy ready to learn and train for their first Ironman event. I've been swimming once a week during my down time, which really helped when it came time to jump into the pool today. It was a much better day at IVC than I remember it to be last year. The sun was out, the pool was heated, and this time I had a clue as to what I was doing.
After we got out of the pool, Coach Carolyn took us through some run drills then sent us on a short jaunt through the streets of Novato. We got back and were treated to a barrage of core strength workouts. There was much grunting and groaning, but I felt great when we were done. Or maybe I felt great because we were done. EIther way, this was a great way to break in the newbies.
We've got a bike clinic and a short ride tomorrow, followed by a potluck team social. We've got some real contenders on this year's team; I'm impressed by the fitness level and accomplishments that the new folks bring to the team. This is going to be a good year.
